The Torrance Refining Company’s Youth Development Program provides summer employment and educational opportunities.
The program targets Torrance students seeking a “first job” experience to reinforce the importance of education, community and a strong work ethic. An integral focus of the program is teaching the real-life skills needed on the job, both in the classroom and through on-the-job training.
At the recent closing ceremony, students who participated in the program spoke about their career goals and future plans with the the supervisors they worked for during the summer.
The Torrance Refinery has sponsored a teen summer job program for the last 27 years, employing Torrance youth and teachers. Some $2 million has been granted to fund this program and 940 students have been employed to date.
