The American Heart Association is looking for volunteers to knit or crochet red baby hats to distribute at local hospitals.
Providence Little Company of Mary Medical Center in Torrance is one of the places that benefits from the Little Hats, Big Hearts program that gives newborns knitted red caps to raise awareness about heart disease. It’s the number one killer of Americans and congenital heart defects, is the most common type of birth defect in the country. All babies born during the month of February will receive a hat. Besides helping with knitting, the association is also accepting yarn or crochet. More than 1,600 newborns in ten L.A. County hospitals receive them. It’s the second year, the American Heart Association and the Children’s Heart Foundation launched the Little Hats, Big Hearts in Los Angeles County.
