Aftershocks continue to hit the Bay Area with a recent 3.9 magnitude tremor near American Canyon.

The 6.0 magnitude earthquake Sunday morning in Northern California was an additional reminder that earthquakes can strike without warning at any time or anywhere. This was the strongest earthquake in 25 years in the northern part of the state. Buildings in downtown Napa received damages including fireplaces that were turned into rubble. Nearly 160 people were treated for minor injuries at the emergency room at Queen of the Valley Hospital. At least 15,000 customers in the areas of Sonoma, Napa and Santa Rosa lost power.

September is designated as National Preparedness Month and the website www.Ready.gov urges the public to be informed, make a plan, build a kit and get involved.
