A one-of-a-kind program in Torrance helping seniors around the house just got a big boost.

The Home Improvement Program, funded by the City’s Community Services Department now has some new and improved vehicles to help make assisting seniors easier. The Fire Department was able to refurbish some retired vehicles to give them a new purpose.

The program is two-fold. It helps seniors with basic services such as painting their homes, and installing hand rails and wheel chairs ramps, as well as minor repairs. This is all to make sure they can stay in their own homes longer. The workers are at-risk youth who learn skills needed for the real world.

The team also helps with hoarding situations when needed. They will use the new vehicles for the first time this week.
